Mouton Christo

30 September 2010 · Drie Riviere Agricultural Holdings, Vereeniging · Gauteng · Shot
He was highly respected in his local community, serving for many years as a professional accountant and the formal head of the Child Welfare Group in Vereeniging. The violent home invasion occurred just before 22:00 PM after three armed attackers managed to gain entry into the homestead by smashing an office window. His wife, Coral Mouton, who was also an accountant, happened to be away in Durban on a business trip at the time of the targeted attack. The perpetrators ambushed Christo Mouton in his bedroom and shot him directly in the heart, causing immediate death. His six-year-old daughter, Monay Mouton, was awoken by a sudden light and the voices of the intruders. The robbers aggressively confronted the young child, demanding to know the location of the family's safe keys. Because she could not answer them, the criminals quickly plundered the home, stealing a television set along with computer equipment before fleeing the premises. Following their departure, the traumatized six-year-old girl discovered her father’s body in his bedroom. She spent more than ten hours alone through the night guarding her father's body, repeatedly waking up in terror, until the family's domestic worker arrived at approximately 07:30 AM the next morning, Wednesday, September 29, 2010, to discover the tragedy and alert the local authorities.
