John de Liere was shot dead on Saturday, August 9, 2008, during a violent rural crime incident. The attack occurred inside a rural shop located in Rayton, a town in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Armed perpetrators entered the premises and shot him during the course of the incident, inflicting fatal trauma that caused his death.
