De Jager Johannes "Manie"

During the incident, an armed gang consisting of four masked men who were all wearing military or camouflage uniforms forced entry into the house by bending open the burglar bars of a window. They made their way directly to the main bedroom where Manie de Jager and his 53-year-old wife, Serina "Tjoekie" de Jager, were sleeping. Upon encountering the armed intruders, Manie de Jager grabbed a large pillow to protect his wife and physically wrestled with the attackers to keep them away from her. The violent struggle moved out of the bedroom and into the television room, where the perpetrators shot him several times, including two gunshots to his back, causing him to die on the scene. His wife managed to flee the house during the altercation, locking herself securely inside the garage where she remained hidden for five hours until a domestic worker arrived at 07:00 to summon help. The killers only stole two cellphones from the property, leaving the home otherwise untouched along with the family vehicle and safe.
