He subjected her to a violent assault, stabbing her multiple times and then slitting her throat. He then plundered her belongings, took her handbag, and fled the scene.Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, and investigators from the specialized regional unit successfully arrested the suspect less than a week later, on Thursday, July 22, 2004. The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Thembinkosi Mkwanazi.The legal proceedings commenced with dramatic scenes at the New Hanover Magistrate's Court on Monday, July 26, 2004. During his very first court appearance before Magistrate Virushka Jamuna, Thembinkosi Mkwanazi entered a formal plea of guilty to the charges of murder and robbery.
