Buys Phillipus Rudolph

The 77-year-old farmer. He was travelling with farm workers from Weenen towards the Mhlumba area when three armed men confronted them and demanded his Toyota bakkie. The workers jumped from the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes. Police were initially called about what was thought to be a vehicle accident, but when they arrived they found Buys dead inside the vehicle. The vehicle had ended up approximately 11 km from where the shooting occurred. Police believed the motive was criminal robbery. Mr Buys's son, Flippie Jnr was killed on his farm in the Weenen area on 3 September 1996, just 7 years prior.
