Bothma Christoffel

The victim was Christoffel Bothma, a 67-year-old farmer who resided in the Nelspruit district of the Mpumalanga province.The initial attack on him took place on Saturday, 18 November 2000, at the residential homestead situated on his farm property within the Nelspruit area. During this violent farm invasion, a group of unidentified armed perpetrators ambushed the couple. Christoffel Bothma was shot directly by the attackers, and the severe gunshot wounds he sustained caused his immediate death at the scene.His wife, Inez Bothma, survived the initial shooting but was held captive by the attackers inside the house. The perpetrators subjected her to severe physical torture during the robbery, repeatedly burning her face and body with a hot clothes iron before fleeing the property with stolen personal belongings. Following the murder of her husband, Inez Bothma continued living in the area and operating a local business, but she was targeted by criminals a second time a few years later. On 8 January 2003, armed attackers invaded her shop located on the farm Waterval in the Nelspruit district, where they shot and killed her.
