. In the early hours of January thirty, 2026, a single intruder wearing a balaclava forced entry into the Shantiniketan residence. The attacker, armed with a knife, held Roopsingh, his seventy-three-year-old mother Geetha, his seventy-seven-year-old uncle, his aunt, and a domestic worker hostage. During the assault, the perpetrator tied up the women and the domestic worker before severely stabbing both Roopsingh and his elderly uncle. The attacker stole a shotgun, a pistol, and an air gun before fleeing the scene. Once the attacker left, Roopsingh’s mother managed to untie herself and call emergency services. Roopsingh was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his severe stab wounds four days later, on February three, 2026, while his elderly uncle survived the attack. The murder caused widespread shock and official condemnation across the iLembe district and the local agricultural sector. In April 2026, the South African Police Service made a major breakthrough by arresting a twenty-year-old primary suspect alongside five other gang members in the Shayamoya area. The gang, which had been terrorizing North Coast farmers, faces charges of murder, house robbery, and various other violent crimes in the region
