TJ Tlali and his 64-year-old wife were ambushed and brutally assaulted by their attackers. The perpetrators left the couple for dead. When assistance finally arrived, the farm attackers had covered the wife and left her hidden under a mattress. Initial assessments by rural safety analysts indicated that nothing was stolen from the property during the assault, leaving the direct motive of the attack unclear at the time of the initial investigation.TJ Tlali died from multiple severe wounds to his head and his body sustained during the heavy beating. He was discovered dead at the scene in a pool of blood. His wife survived the assault but sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized in a highly traumatized state.
