Viljoen Johan

Age 19. Nineteen-year-old Johan Viljoen, who worked as a cheese-maker. During the targeted robbery, a group of attackers violently overpowered him inside the farmhouse along with a co-worker, twenty-three-year-old Thabiso Khathatse. The perpetrators proceeded to torture Johan Viljoen by pouring petrol over his body and setting him on fire. Despite having his clothes and body completely ablaze and enduring extreme agony, he desperately attempted to dial for assistance on the telephone before throwing himself into a freezing fishpond on the property to extinguish the flames. He survived the initial onslaught but sustained critical 85% burn wounds across his body, which ultimately proved fatal. The attackers set the historic homestead on fire and fled the scene.
