✝
Mastrogiuseppe Raffaele
3 October 2018 · Farm Houtpoort, Heidelberg · Gauteng · Shot
On the evening of 2 October 2018, he had a final telephone conversation with his son around 21:00, explaining he was staying late at work to finish a mechanical delivery. After returning home and having dinner, an ambush was executed inside the farmhouse by a group of five intruders who broke into the residence. He was shot in the chest during the robbery and died directly at the scene.
Following the execution, the attackers looted the house, breaking open a safe and stealing various household goods. They also stole his Mercedes-Benz automobile and a second getaway car. Before fleeing, the intruders found a bottle of whisky in the house and drank it. Their escape attempt failed after traveling only a short distance, as they crashed the stolen Mercedes-Benz off the road.
A rapid police tracking sweep led to the arrest of multiple suspects in the nearby Ratanda township. The responding units successfully recovered the stolen household property, the safe, the getaway vehicles, and an illegal firearm utilized in the murder. Two primary suspects who were arrested in connection with the attack subsequently appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court in late 2018 to face formal charges of murder, house robbery, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
