The incident began on 2 October 2011 on the family's smallholding property near Vryburg in the North West province, from which he subsequently traveled to the nearby Poppiesbale Quarry. Forensic and police recovery details confirm he suffered a violent death from multiple stab wounds, specifically located on the arms and the back of his head. He had spent the day socializing with his family on their smallholding property on Sunday, 2 October 2011, before departing for the Poppiesbale Quarry outside the town. After he failed to return and was not seen alive again, an extensive search operation was launched involving specialized police dog and diving units. His body was ultimately retrieved by search teams on Monday, 3 October 2011, from where it had been dumped inside the dirty water and reeds of the Poppiesbale Quarry.
