September 9 to September 11, 2011, at his property in the Ottosdal district of the North West province. He had been living alone following the passing of his wife, Lottie, three months prior. He was last seen alive on Friday evening and was presumably ambushed and overpowered by intruders just after driving through his gate. The attackers forced him into his home, where they robbed him of a pistol and R20,000 cash from his safe.
