During the violent farm invasion, the elderly couple was caught by surprise inside their residence by a group of perpetrators. Cornelis Willem Olivier and Maria Marthina Olivier were subjected to a severe and fatal physical assault by the attackers. The perpetrators intentionally suffocated Maria Marthina Olivier, and both she and her husband succumbed to multiple traumatic injuries and stab wounds inflicted during the criminal raid.
