Odendaal Johan Willem

Age 38. Willem was ambushed on the farm by his attackers, severely assaulted, and fatally injured. The murder was carried out by two men who infiltrated the property. The tragedy shattered the family financially and emotionally, especially because Willem's elderly parents were killed only a few months later (in July 1990) in a similarly violent attack on the same Richmond farm. During the same attack, another individual named J. Jones was also murdered. The incident occurred during a period of intense political instability and violence in the mid-to-late 1980s in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, a region severely affected by clashes between rival political factions and targeted attacks on isolated homesteads.
