Baettler August
2 November 1993 · Zwavelpoort Smallholdings, Pretoria · Gauteng · Other
On Tuesday, 2 November 1993, a deeply harrowing and devastating farm attack took place on the rural outskirts of South Africa's administrative capital, claiming the life of twenty-six-year-old August Baettler. The young man was inside his homestead situated on the Zwavelpoort smallholdings, an agricultural area located east of Pretorias, Gauteng. Under the cover of darkness, an unidentified group of intruders breached the property security and cornered him inside the residence.
During the violent invasion, the attackers targeted him mercilessly. August Baettler was shot twice, with the bullets striking him directly in the leg and the head. To ensure destruction and conceal the gravity of the assault, the perpetrators deliberately set the house alight before fleeing the property into the surrounding rural terrain. He tragically perished from the severe physical trauma of the gunshot wounds and the subsequent fire.
