Von Litsenborgh Carlo Hector "Carl"

24 September 2000 · Farm Sanice, Klapmuts · Western Cape · Shot
Age 69. Carl was a respected pig and sheep farmer in the area. Two armed men, Mzwandile Tukwayo and Sipho Mlulo Mvumri, broke into the farmhouse while the couple lay asleep. The attackers confronted his wife, Patricia Elizabeth van Litsenborgh—also known as Peggy—and held a firearm to her head to demand money and weapons. They forced her to open two household safes, robbing the property of a revolver, assorted jewelry, and a wallet worth over R200,000. After securing the stolen items, Tukwayo shot Carlo van Litsenborgh at point-blank range in the head while he was still sleeping in his bed, causing fatal brain injuries. The criminals tied up Patricia van Litsenborgh so tightly that the ropes left permanent physical scars, but she survived the attack.Following police investigations, Sipho Mlulo Mvumri was arrested and quickly brought to justice, receiving a conviction and a life imprisonment sentence in 2001. His accomplice, Mzwandile Tukwayo, successfully evaded law enforcement and went into hiding as a fugitive for fifteen years. Authorities eventually tracked him down, and the Western Cape High Court sentenced Tukwayo to life imprisonment in 2017 for murder, along with additional concurrent sentences for aggravated robbery, housebreaking, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
