Pretorius Johannes Petrus

Four attackers gained entry into the farm residence at approximately 14:00, tying up and holding hostage Mrs. Pretorius, her daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and a housekeeper. When Johannes Petrus Pretorius returned to the home at approximately 18:00, the perpetrators shot him twice. They then shot his son, Petrus Pretorius, leaving him critically injured. The attackers plundered the house for electrical goods, jewelry, and firearms, fleeing the scene in the family's vehicle which was subsequently abandoned. Johannes Petrus Pretorius died at the scene, while Petrus Pretorius survived the initial shooting but remained hospitalized in a serious condition. Age 59. The attack commenced around 2:00 PM on Friday afternoon when four armed perpetrators breached the property boundaries and forced entry into the farmhouse. Once inside, they completely overpowered the occupants who were home at the time, violently tying up Johannes Petrus Pretorius’s wife, his daughter-in-law, his two young grandchildren, and the family housekeeper. The intruders held the five family members and staff hostage for four hours, systematically ransacking the home to gather electrical appliances, jewelry, and firearms. At approximately 6:00 PM, Johannes Petrus Pretorius arrived back at the property and walked into the unfolding crime scene. The robbers immediately confronted him and shot him twice in the chest, inflicting fatal wounds that caused him to die at the scene. The gunmen next targeted his 32-year-old son, Petros Pretorius, opening fire and shooting him as well. Petros Pretorius survived the initial gunfire but was left in a critical condition and was urgently transported to a hospital in Alberton for emergency medical treatment.Following the shootings, the four perpetrators loaded the stolen household goods and firearms into the family's motor vehicle and fled the property. Responding Mpumalanga police units and local security networks launched an immediate pursuit. The getaway vehicle was discovered abandoned a short distance away. Upon searching the vehicle, law enforcement officers successfully recovered the stolen firearms along with a portion of the plundered household goods left behind by the fleeing suspect
