Wartington Jacobus Cornelius

Jakobus went outside his home to investigate why the household electricity had failed, as the farm's power generator was located in an external utility room. He was ambushed outside by multiple attackers, severely beaten, and killed.The perpetrators then entered the main house where they bound and assaulted his 72-year-old wife, Anna Maria Wartington. The attackers ransacked the home and fled the scene using the couple's white Isuzu bakkie, also stealing cash, a wallet, a hand radio, a kitchen table knife, and three sets of vehicle keys.Police operations led to the capture of the suspects, and the criminal trial concluded in the Northern Cape High Court on September 29, 2014, under Judge Wendy Hughes-Madondo. Two men, 33-year-old Pieter Willemse and 53-year-old Boetise Xqibile Mathombeni, were convicted of the premeditated murder of Jakobus Cornelius Wartington, the attempted murder of Anna Maria Wartington, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. Both defendants received life sentences after attempting to blame each other for organizing the ambush.
