Potgieter Willemien

The victims were a forty-year-old farm manager named Attie Potgieter, his thirty-six-year-old wife Wilna, and their two-year-old daughter Wilmien. The attack occurred on the couple's eleventh wedding anniversary during what was later determined to be a planned robbery orchestrated by one of their own farm workers, Vusi Khumalo.The incident was marked by extreme physical cruelty. Attie Potgieter was ambushed outside the home, dragged, and subjected to a prolonged assault. Forensic pathology evidence presented during the trial revealed that he had been tortured and stabbed over one hundred and fifty times with various farm implements, including a panga and a garden fork. His wife and toddler were forced to witness the initial violence before being taken inside the farmhouse. Wilna Potgieter and little Wilmien were both executed at close range with a firearm. Investigators later discovered the toddler's footprints left in her father's blood, indicating she had walked near his body during the ordeal. Before fleeing the property with stolen items, the attackers left a chilling note written on the farm gate that read, "We are coming back".
