Age 18. The tragedy transpired at approximately 3:00 AM while the teenager was asleep in his bedroom. The attackers approached the house under the cover of darkness, broke through his bedroom window, and callously opened fire, shooting the youth directly through the window while he was still lying in bed. After firing the fatal shot, the criminals jumped through the broken windowpane into the room, grabbed his personal laptop computer, and immediately fled the smallholding. Despite sustaining a catastrophic gunshot wound, the wounded teenager managed to stumble out of his room to his mother's bedroom, telling her that he had been shot, before collapsing inside the family's bathroom. His father, Deon Hoon, along with his fifty-one-year-old mother, Brenette, and his twenty-one-year-old sister, Kalike, desperately tried to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation to stabilize him, but he tragically succumbed to his internal trauma and bled to death on the scene before emergency services could arrive.Following the homicide, the South African Police Service in Kameeldrift, led by regional police spokespersons, initiated an intensive murder and house robbery investigation, collecting ballistic evidence from the shattered bedroom window layout. However, due to the rapid cross-terrain escape executed by the shooters and a lack of immediate eyewitness identifiers in the dark, the killers successfully managed to evade detection.
