Their daughter Samantha remembers : It was my dad and mom. They were killed by their own farm worker. My dad was beaten and then shot. My mom was shot. They then loaded them into their work vehicle then drove off and left then in the vehicle under the Kamakasi bridge. People passing by on the Thursday found them half decomposed. The attack was orchestrated by Gibson Banda, a Zimbabwean national who had been employed as a farmworker on the property but was dismissed by Greyvenstein shortly before the incident. Seeking revenge, Banda and an accomplice waited for the couple, killed them, and then fled across the border to Zimbabwe. A joint operation between the South African Police Service and Zimbabwean authorities eventually led to Banda being arrested in his home country and extradited back to South Africa to face justice. In May 2017, roughly seven years after the crime, the Limpopo High Court sitting in Thohoyandou sentenced Gibson Banda to two life terms for the double murder, in addition to an extra twenty-one years in prison for related offenses.
