Daffeu Jacobus Johannes "Koos"
3 August 2010 · Farm Lith, Ellisras · Limpopo · Shot
Jacobus Johannes Daffue, a 46-year-old cattle farmer and construction contractor who was killed on 3 August 2010. He was ambushed at approximately 05:40 AM while driving his Toyota Hilux bakkie on his way from his farm, Lith, to his contracting job at the Medupi Power Station near Lephalale in Limpopo. The attackers waited at a narrow, single-lane low-water bridge crossing the Mogol River on the Beska road. As his vehicle crossed the bridge, multiple suspects opened fire at close range, striking his vehicle and wounding him severely. He managed to drive roughly 500 to 600 meters further down the road before losing control of the bakkie, which then overturned near a T-junction. The attackers chased the vehicle to the crash site and shot him five more times in the upper body and chest as he lay inside the overturned vehicle. He sustained a total of eleven gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Police recovered five spent 9mm pistol cartridges next to the overturned bakkie along with additional spent cartridges back at the bridge. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle or the victim.
