Age 33. The couple was shot dead in their bed during the early hours of Saturday, June 2, 2001. Following the shooting, the attackers abducted the couple's 9-year-old son, assaulted him, stripped him, and tied him naked to a farm fence with his mouth stuffed with grass. Later that day, police discovered the traumatized boy and his 10-year-old sister, who had also survived the ordeal inside the house. Investigators noted that nothing was stolen from the farmhouse, even leaving an expensive hi-fi system untouched right next to an open lounge window, which led police to rule out standard robbery and investigate the incident as a possible revenge attack or targeted hit. A manhunt was subsequently launched for three suspects.
