✝
Kruger Ibele
28 October 2009 · Magalies Moot smallholding, Brits, · North West · Shot
Age 56. The tragedy unfolded shortly before midnight at the family’s Pine Street residence, which was surrounded by electrified fencing. His wife, Amanda Kruger, had just gone to bed, leaving a sliding door slightly open so that the family's dogs could move in and out of the house freely. Taking advantage of this opening, a group of gunmen managed to slip silently past the security barrier and into the house completely undetected.
They caught Ibele Kruger entirely by surprise as he sat in his lounge chair watching television late at night. Without warning, the attackers opened fire, shooting him twice at close range and killing him on the scene. Earlier that very same evening, he had joyfully surprised his family by purchasing tickets for an upcoming trip together.
Following the fatal shooting, the killers acted with chilling composure. They walked out of the house calmly, taking absolutely nothing from the home except for Amanda's cellphone, which they stole solely to prevent her from immediately contacting emergency services or calling neighbors for help. Local South African Police Service officials initially described the incident as a robbery, but contemporary reports published by journalists Graeme Hosken in the Pretoria News and Virginia Keppler in Beeld newspaper highlighted that no other valuables or household items were touched.
