Spies Johannes Jacobus “Hansie”

The attack occurred around 05:00 while Johannes Jacobus "Hansie" Spies and his wife, Elizabeth Anna Spies, were asleep. They were woken up by their dogs barking loudly outside the farmhouse. He went outside to investigate the commotion. Upon his second trip outside into the yard, his wife looked through the window and spotted at least two to four intruders on the property. A confrontation ensued outside, and the attackers unleashed a hail of gunfire. He was shot multiple times in the chest and his left arm. Mortally wounded, he managed to stumble back inside the house bleeding profusely before collapsing. An ambulance was immediately summoned, but he tragically succumbed to his extensive gunshot wounds approximately one hour later on the scene.
