Mr Heynecke's son, Riaan, remembers : "My mother's name is Wilna Heyneke. My father went to the farm that morning as usual. The people who attacked and then murdered him were already at the farm before my father arrived. They had planned the attack over the weekend prior to the day of the assault. They watched him the entire day, and after he milked his cattle that evening (his cattle were his hobby; the newspapers mistakenly referred to him as a dairy farmer, but he was a crop farmer). He was overpowered by four of them and then tortured for approximately two hours. Afterward, he was bound with electrical wires and hung in a sitting position against an engine crane with his feet and hands tied. They watched him die and then fled with his bakkie and tools.My father was found by my mother and my sisters about an hour after his death. Because of safety reasons, my father specifically did not want to live on the farm with my mother and my sisters. At the time of the attack. I was in the Air Force at Waterkloof.
