18 October 2009 · Muldersdrif · Gauteng · Strangled
Age 25. she did not reside on an agricultural property but was killed during a weekend visit to a smallholding in Muldersdrift on the West Rand of Gauteng. The horrific incident occurred over the weekend of Saturday, October 17, 2009, with her body being discovered on Sunday, October 18, 2009. The tragedy began on Saturday when Daniëlle left her home after being seen alive for the last time by her fifty-three-year-old mother, Linda Lumsdale. She left in the company of a thirty-one-year-old friend, Timothy Dreyer, to attend a motorcycle race in Midrand. At the event, the pair met up with another friend, thirty-five-year-old Douw Coetzee, and later that evening, they all drove back to Coetzee's smallholding property in Muldersdrift. During the evening, Daniëlle sent a reassuring short message service text to her mother stating that she was okay and would return home the following day. Unbeknownst to her mother, a severe argument subsequently erupted between the two men at the smallholding that night. When Daniëlle failed to return home as promised, she was officially reported missing at the Muldersdrift police station on Monday. When police questioned the two male companions, neither could account for her whereabouts, but an intensive search of the Muldersdrift smallholding led to the discovery of her body on the property. Police spokesperson Inspector Tebogo Kgomo stated to the media that due to the complex nature of the crime scene, it was initially unclear whether the primary medical cause of death was strangulation or if she had been subjected to an assault. Her mother publicly expressed the profound devastation and grief her family experienced over the violent end of her daughter's life.
