Jordaan André
13 September 2012 · Muldersdrift smallholding · Gauteng · Shot
Age 50. André Jordaan (50) was brutally shot inside his home on a smallholding in Muldersdrift on 13 September 2012 and succumbed to his injuries two days later, on Saturday 15 September 2012, at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. He was outside his house with other people when a barking dog alerted them to a group of armed men. The robbers stormed the house to plunder the property. Jordaan died a hero as he repeatedly tried to stand up to protect his family—including his wife Isabel, his sons, his daughters-in-law, and a pregnant relative—against the attackers. He was shot a total of seven times in the upper body, after which the attackers fled with only a plasma TV and cellphones. The attack was part of a severe reign of terror in the Muldersdrift area by the same gang that had shot and killed 13-year-old schoolgirl Alyssa Botha in the very same street just a week prior, on 5 September 2012. The three attackers, Alfred Zwane, Samson Mandlezi, and Manir Lubisi, were apprehended shortly thereafter and were each sentenced in the Johannesburg High Court in October 2014 to two life terms for the murders plus an additional 148 years in prison.
