Botha Alyssa

Age 12. The attack occurred during the evening of Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Her father, 51-year-old Anton Botha, had just picked up Alyssa and her 17-year-old sister, Meghan Botha, from a friend's house. As they parked inside their residential plot and began unloading bags from the vehicle's boot, three armed intruders who had been lying in ambush opened fire on the family while their mother watched helplessly from the front door. The attackers ransacked the victims but ignored the vehicle, fleeing the property on foot after stealing only an empty wallet and two mobile phones.Alyssa died at the scene from a fatal gunshot wound to her abdomen. Her father, Anton, survived after being shot in the abdomen, which later required emergency surgery and resulted in the loss of a kidney. Her sister, Meghan, also survived the ambush despite sustaining gunshot wounds to both of her legs.A rapid police mobilization led to the arrest of the perpetrators on September 14, 2012, after they were discovered sleeping along Beyers Naudé Drive. The subsequent investigation linked the gang to a broad, violent crime spree that terrorized the rurally zoned Muldersdrift area. The criminal trial concluded in the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court on October 1, 2014, under Judge Moses Mavundla. Three men—Alfred Zwane, Samson Mandlezi, and Manir Ubisi (also recorded as Lubisi)—were convicted on 15 structural criminal charges, including the murder of Alyssa Botha, the murder of neighboring smallholder Andre Jordaan, multiple counts of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, housebreaking, and illegal firearm possession. Judge Mavundla sentenced the cooperative perpetrators to multiple life imprisonment terms.
