Age 33. he incident unfolded while Burger was busy putting up fencing on his land and was unexpectedly approached by attackers who shot him from behind before executing him at close range through the head with an AK-forty-seven rifle. Following the shooting, farmworkers ran back to the main homestead to warn his wife, who was heavily pregnant and due to give birth within two weeks, as well as his mother who was visiting to help prepare for the new baby. His wife and mother immediately rushed toward the scene in a vehicle, but the vehicle became stuck a short distance away, forcing his mother to proceed on foot where she discovered his body.
