Marais Willie

During the farm attack, both Willie and Anna Marais were shot dead by the perpetrators. The direct cause of death for both victims was fatal gunshot wounds. The attackers also shot and killed the couple's Maltese poodle dog during the same assault. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of Anna Marais alongside the deceased dog on the back porch of the farmhouse. The body of Willie Marais was found inside the house in the lounge, positioned right next to the telephone.The discovery of the crime began when South African Police Service officers on patrol in Calvinia, located in the Northern Cape, intercepted the couple's stolen bakkie utility vehicle at approximately 2:00 AM on the night of the attack. After questioning the driver and tracing the vehicle registration back to the Klipkraal property, Northern Cape authorities alerted the Citrusdal police, who subsequently discovered the bodies at the farmhouse.Following the immediate vehicle interception, the police arrested two suspects. The first suspect was the driver stopped in Calvinia shortly before 2:00 AM, and further tracking led to the arrest of a second 30-year-old male suspect in Clanwilliam just before 6:00 AM that same morning. A shotgun was confiscated by the police during the operation.
