Fakude George

27 July 2013 · Wartburg · KwaZulu-Natal · Shot
Age 46. He was a highly popular and respected farm manager who had worked on the property for 12 years. The attack occurred before sunrise at approximately 05:30 on the morning of Saturday, July 27, 2013. The incident took place on the property where he worked, St Paul's Farm, which is situated in the Wartburg district of the KwaZulu-Natal province.During the incident, the killers waited in the dark for him as he left his home to go and collect the farm labourers for work. He was ambushed and sustained a single gunshot through the chest and lungs, which caused massive internal hemorrhaging. Desperately injured, he tried to drive the farm bakkie into a sugarcane field hoping to escape as the attackers fired a volley of bullets after him. Evidence showed that he frantically tried to call for help on his cellphone, but failed due to poor cellular reception on that part of the farm. About thirty minutes later, the farm owner, Chris Duvenage, made the gruesome discovery when he noticed the lights of the bakkie sitting in the middle of the sugarcane field.
