Green Timothy

11 August 2013 · Farm Mellongreen, Newcastle · KwaZulu-Natal · Shot
Age 44. The tragedy unfolded around 7:00 PM when Green returned home alone and disturbed a burglary in progress. Three intruders, which included one of his own farmworkers, had broken into his house while he was away and stolen items, including his own 12-bore shotgun. As Green got out of his bakkie to open his farm gate, the men ambushed him and shot him in the leg using the stolen firearm.Despite being gravely wounded, Green managed to grab his cellphone from his vehicle and call a friend to summon emergency help. While attempting to crawl under his bakkie for safety, the attackers dragged him out and shot him fatally in the head before fleeing the scene. The South African Police Service arrested all three suspects within 48 hours. In April 2015, the Pietermaritzburg High Court sentenced the perpetrators—Siyabonga Mhlungu, Mfanukhona Masiteng, and Thulani Kubheka—to life imprisonment for their roles in the premeditated murder and robbery.
