8 September 2014 · Glendale, Stanger · KwaZulu-Natal · Shot
A MESSAGE FROM HIS WIFE : Today is 12 years for you Rajpaul gone but not forgotten. 62 year old Rajpaul and his 57 year old wife, Kamala, who are both employees of a special needs school in Stanger, were leaving home this morning in a Nissan 1400 bakkie when they were attacked by two baraclava clad males. The suspects opened fire repeatedly on the vehicle shooting Rajpaul several times. He then lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an abandoned building on the farm. His wife, who was also shot, lay next husband who was bleeding profusely. The suspects believed that she was also dead due to her being covered in her husbands blood. They then fled the scene without taking any valuables. Two farm workers who were getting into the bakkie during the shooting fled the scene and were unharmed. The female victim escaped death as her handbag had shielded her from several 9mm rounds. She however has sustained a bullet wound and was rushed to a private hospital. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to search the vast area with the helicopter. At 06:30 the RUSA helicopter lifted off from Verulam and is currently searching the Glendale area for the suspects. Assistance to both victims were delayed as the surviving female lay in shock for over an hour next to her husband before using her cellphone to call for help. The victims are close relatives of Verulam based policeman Warrant Officer P. Indarjee. It was established that Rajpaul was leaving early this morning to pick up a bus which is used to transport children with special needs to school. He was in possession of a 9mm pistol which he could not use due to the surprise attack. Eight spent 9mm cartridges were found on scene and it is believed that several more rounds were fired at the victims vehicle.
