Brummer Douw

11 October 2011 · Farm Goedgedacht, Dwaalboom · Limpopo · Shot
Age 50. An armed criminal group ambushed him on his property, executing him by shooting him in the back of the head. His attackers then moved into the main residence, where they ransacked the home and forced open the farmhouse asset safe. They fled the smallholding after robbing him of his cellular mobile phone and several personal firearms. The crime was uncovered the following morning, Wednesday, 12 October 2011, at approximately 6:00 AM, when his farm workers arrived for duty and discovered his body lying on the lawn directly in front of his house. Following the initial discovery, a comprehensive investigation was launched by the South African Police Service under provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ronel Otto. Intensive investigative and tactical tracking yielded major breakthroughs three weeks later. On Wednesday, 2 November 2011, a coordinated police raid resulted in the formal arrest of five foreign nationals. Four of the suspects were apprehended in Rustenburg, while the fifth accomplice was taken into custody on the same day in Northam. The arrested suspects—identified as three Zimbabwean citizens and two Mozambican citizens—were found in possession of a recovered firearm connected to the crime. They were formally indicted on charges of murder and house robbery with aggravating circumstances, making their initial legal appearance in the Thabazimbi Magistrate's Court on Friday, 4 November 2011.
