Age 70. The fatal attack is estimated to have occurred on 10 August 2015, based on the findings of subsequent investigations, though his remains were discovered by neighbors on the morning of Thursday, August 13, 2015. The attackers entered his property, assaulted him, and fatally took his life. Following the killing, the perpetrators stole his white, single-cab GWM bakkie. To cover up the crime scene and destroy forensic evidence, the murderers later returned to the smallholding and set the second floor of his house on fire with his body inside. Neighbors noticed the smoke just before midnight on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, and rushed to extinguish the flames, leading to the discovery of his skeletal remains the next morning. At the time of the incident, he had lived alone on the property for forty years.
