A 55-year-old South African farmer, was shot and killed on Monday, October 5, 1998, during a brutal farm attack on his property named Bartlow Combine, situated in the rural district of Hluhluwe within the KwaZulu-Natal province. The perpetrators, who were armed with a high-caliber military firearm—specifically an AK-47 rifle—confronted David Vermaak and immediately opened fire.
