Du Plessis Jackie

2 November 2011 · Rustenburg · North West · Shot
Age 68. They were murdered on 2 November 2011 on a smallholding/farm near Rustenburg, North West, where they bred parrots. Don du Plessis was 72 and Jackie du Plessis was 68. They were attacked at their home at about 2:00 a.m. while they were attending to their birds. The couple were apparently assaulted with objects and tied up. Jackie was shot once in the head, while Don was beaten to death. Their bodies were found in separate rooms by friends who became concerned when Jackie failed to arrive for a scheduled Bible-study meeting. Cash was taken from the safe, together with a camera and laptop. The investigation initially focused on a Zimbabwean couple who had worked for the Du Plessises. The woman had been employed as a domestic worker and the man had done general work on the bird farm. They had disappeared shortly before the bodies were discovered and were being sought for questioning. Contemporary reports also recorded that the couple had previously dismissed two workers and had received threats.
