Torr Ernest Reginald

Age 87. is body was discovered by police on his property following an assault and robbery executed by two men. Following an intensive investigation, the South African Police Service arrested two suspects who were subsequently tried before a Grahamstown High Court sitting in Graaff-Reinet. In November 2000, the court convicted both individuals, sentencing Dampie Jacobs to life imprisonment for the murder, and his co-accused, Jannie Barends, to twenty years for murder alongside fifteen years for robbery, ordered to run concurrently. Mr Torr eventually died from exposure to the elements after being left tied up on the stoep.
