Des Krause, a 63-year-old Eastern Cape cattle farmer and international construction manager, was murdered on the morning of Tuesday, 17 April 2018, near the gates of his Summerpride 1 Farm property near Kei Road. Krause was ambushed after leaving his farmhouse at approximately 04:00 to commute to a school construction project in Fort Beaufort, sustaining multiple stab and bullet wounds before his body was discovered by a colleague. He was found lying face down in a pond near the farm gates. A post-mortem and police assessment showed he had sustained multiple stab and bullet wounds to his upper body.
