Age 65. On the day of the crime, she had gone out to do shopping while her husband was traveling in Pretoria for work. Upon returning home, she was ambushed inside the farmhouse by an intruder who had gained entry and waited for her. The attacker overpowered her, turned her own firearm against her, and she died from a single gunshot wound to the neck. The perpetrator stole her handbag, laptop, iPad, cellphone, and her personal vehicle (a bakkie). Police were alerted later that Saturday night after she failed to answer phone calls from friends whom she was scheduled to meet for a dinner appointment. Police successfully linked him to the active crime scene after recovering personal documentation and the victim's stolen cellphone in his possession. Legal documentation from the Circuit High Court in Mossel Bay shows that on Monday morning, November 4, 2013, Roger Treurnicht officially pleaded guilty to the charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances before Judge Pat Gamble. The state requested a life sentence for the crimes, and Treurnicht was remanded to the George Correctional Facility
