Greyling Neil
13 October 2016 · Malmesbury · Western Cape · Stabbed
Age 58. At approximately 20:40, four male perpetrators managed to breach security and gain entry into the farmhouse. At the time of the break-in, Neil Greyling was inside the residence alongside his wife and another unnamed man. The intruders immediately ambushed the occupants. During the violent confrontation, the attackers targeted the farmer with an edged weapon, stabbing Neil Greyling directly in the heart. He sustained catastrophic chest trauma from the knife wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency response personnel. His wife and the other male occupant were also assaulted and sustained injuries during the onslaught, requiring them to be evacuated from the farm and admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Following the fatal stabbing, the four perpetrators ransacked the residence, stealing various household goods and property before fleeing into the night. The South African Police Service arrived on the property shortly after being alerted and initiated formal criminal investigations into cases of murder and house robbery. Despite immediate localized efforts and tracking by provincial law enforcement, no suspects were successfully apprehended or detained in the immediate aftermath of the crime.
