De Kock Jan

Age 29. Mr. De Kock was ambushed by attackers in his store/shed and severely assaulted. His body was later discovered in the shed by neighbors. His wife survived the attack. She was locked inside the house's bathroom by the attackers during the incident but was left physically unharmed, though severely traumatized. Neighbors later freed her. The police were initially alerted after Mr. De Kock's Ford Ranger bakkie was found abandoned along a road in the Vereeniging area with the keys still in the ignition. A suspected attacker, Jacob Mokoena, was arrested six years later (in October 2020) in an informal settlement in Sharpeville after being found in possession of De Kock's stolen firearms.
