Lottering Roelf

Age 52. The incident took place in the early hours of the morning at approximately 01:00. A gang of three armed men breached the residence. The attackers initially confronted his 77-year-old mother, Lucy, dragging her from her bedroom into the hallway where they subjected her to physical assault by hitting and kicking her. Roelf Lottering actively fought back against the intruders to defend his mother. During the physical altercation, the attackers fatally shot Roelf Lottering four times, with three bullets striking him in the arm and one penetrating his heart. Despite sustaining fatal wounds, he managed to injure one of his assailants.After the perpetrators fled into the surrounding fields, a neighbor named Marius Pretorius responded to the mother's cries for help and contacted the Pretoria North police, who arrived at the scene within six minutes. Responding officers and community members discovered a distinct trail of blood leading from the bedroom, down the hallway, and out into the open field, confirming that an attacker had been wounded during the struggle.The smallholding had been targeted by criminals twice before in 2018 and September 2019, but Roelf Lottering had successfully fought off the intruders on both of those previous occasions.
