Maloka Mfanafuthi Justine
7 August 2021 · Farm Toekoms, Harrismith · Free State · Stabbed
Age 17. Mgwenika John Twala was an emerging farmer on this property, which was land allocated to beneficiaries by the government under a land claim. The family members died from a brutal physical assault. Mgwenika John Twala, Sonto Selina Maloka, Zama Maloka, and Mfanafuthi Justine Maloka died from multiple severe stab wounds inflicted across their bodies with a sharp object or blade. The 6-year-old daughter, Nompumelelo Emily Maloka, sustained stab wounds and also showed signs of manual strangulation, which combined to cause her death. The bodies of the mother and father were found lying positioned right next to each other inside one room of the house, two children were located within the same room, and the oldest son was discovered lying on the floor of a separate room. The gruesome scene was first discovered on Saturday morning by a local traditional healer who had a pre-arranged business appointment with the family. Upon finding the farmhouse door unlocked, he knocked, received no answer, and eventually pushed the door open to see a victim's hand visible from the living room, prompting him to alert the neighbors and the police.Regarding suspects, arrests, and convictions, the South African Police Service Provincial Organised Crime Unit launched an immediate manhunt following the discovery of the bodies. While local agriculture groups and initial updates indicated that a search was underway for specific individuals, formal police logs confirm that no suspects were ever successfully charged or positively linked to the crime scene.
