Büchner Werner Ignatius Snr

Age 55. The violent farm invasion took place on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at approximately 6:30 PM. Three armed perpetrators breached the home security and ambushed the family inside the house. During the sudden onslaught, Werner's wife, Estelle Büchner, heroically threw her own body over her family to protect them. The attackers aggressively kicked and beat Estelle, fracturing both of her arms, and turned their firearms on both men before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and two mobile phones.Werner Snr died from a fatal gunshot wound to his back (upper body) and passed away at the scene. His 30-year-old son, Werner Büchner Junior, survived the attack but sustained severe injuries from being shot in the leg, requiring emergency stabilizing surgery at a medical facility in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) alongside his mother.The initial criminal investigation triggered a widespread manhunt overseen by the South African Police Service under Sgt Majola Nkohli. The shocking loss of the respected agricultural leader prompted national condemnation, including formal executive intervention calls from the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza.
