Age 60. The incident unfolded on Monday, September 5, 2022, when Nikolaas went out to service a water pump on the farm property in the company of one of his employees. He left that specific worker at approximately 10:00 AM and was never seen alive again. His stepdaughter subsequently raised an alarm on social media when he failed to return, triggering a localized search operation by police and civil rural safety units. His body was discovered the following day, Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at around 2:30 PM by other employees on the farm property, while his bakkie was found abandoned further down the Maroelasfontein gravel road.Nikolaas died after being bound with cables during a house robbery and assault. Following the murder, the perpetrators ransacked the farmhouse and looted the home safe, stealing jewelry, a laptop, a mobile phone, and the victim's vehicle.A coordinated intelligence-driven operation by the Northam and Mogwase police stations, alongside local visible policing and community rural safety partners, resulted in the rapid arrest of five suspects. Four of the suspects were farm laborers who were apprehended on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in possession of the stolen electronics. The fifth suspect, Bhekimpilo Trevor Ncube, a 38-year-old Zimbabwean national, fled the province but was tracked down and arrested that same evening inside a rented room in Holfontein, North West Province. The initial suspects identified in the Northam Magistrate's Court proceedings on charges of murder, house robbery, and vehicle theft included Thabang Koos Moruwa and Ncube.
