Pattinson Michael André "Mike"

Age 66. Michael André Pattinson, who lived alone on the property and worked as the chief financial officer at Harriston Private School, was last seen alive by his housekeeper at approximately 17:00 on Saturday, July 22, 2023. He failed to report for work on Monday, July 24, 2023, which prompted his brother to visit the farm. The brother discovered signs of a forced entry through the kitchen door, and found that two laptops, a camera, and Pattinson's Toyota Urban Cruiser were missing. South African Police Service (SAPS) units traced the stolen vehicle to a tavern in the Tseseng settlement in Qwaqwa later that Monday afternoon. Upon entering a local house in Tsheseng Village, police apprehended seven suspects and discovered Pattinson's body. The perpetrators had violently overpowered Pattinson at his farmhouse, forced him into his vehicle, and driven him to Qwaqwa, where he was tortured and suffered fatal head and neck wounds. The high-density investigation by the SAPS led to the immediate arrest of seven individuals who faced charges of house robbery, vehicle theft, kidnapping, possession of stolen property, and murder. Following a successful prosecution, five suspects were convicted and sentenced in the Free State High Court on November 28, 2024.
