✝
Louw Jayden
7 October 2023 · Welbekend Smallholding, Bapsfontein · Gauteng · Shot
Age 14. The tragedy transpired around 1:00 PM while Jayden, his ten-year-old brother Damian, and their fifty-year-old mother Lyall Louw were inside the home. A group of five unknown men knocked at the front door under the pretense of looking for another resident. When the mother realized they were armed and attempted to slam the door shut, the intruders rammed their way inside and aggressively manhandled her, forcing her to open the household safes. Witnessing the imminent threat to his mother, the brave teenager rushed to the safe to retrieve a family firearm to defend them. The suspects quickly overpowered the youth and opened fire, shooting him twice in the chest at close range before fleeing the smallholding with stolen cellphones and laptops. The frantic mother begged the attackers to let her leave, loaded her heavily bleeding son into her vehicle, and rushed him to the Netcare Linmed Hospital in Benoni, where he was tragically declared dead on arrival.Following rapid intelligence operations by the South African Police Service, law enforcement made critical breakthroughs in the weeks following the homicide. Police arrested multiple suspects, including Paulos Lonsao Lorenzo Fergilio and Nicolaas Goodwill Khoza, who were formally charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. In March 2025, the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's Court officially denied bail to Khoza due to his history as a repeat offender and fugitive flight risk, subsequently transferring the high-profile case to the Pretoria High Court. The formal trial faced complex bureaucratic delays, leaving the final judicial convictions and long-term sentencing terms for the killers pending in the high court.
