13 April 2024 · Besaansklip Smallholding Vredenburg · Western Cape · Stabbed
Age 57. Christians and his fifty-five-year-old wife, Lisle Christians, had spent the previous evening at their urban apartment in Wesbank, where his wife managed a local linen shop. When the couple returned to their smallholding property on Saturday, they were shocked to discover that intruders had heavily ransacked and vandalized the premises, breaking windows, tearing out frames, and cutting open the locks to their storeroom. As they moved around the exterior of the house to assess the absolute extent of the property damage, two robbers armed with pangas and screwdrivers ambushed them at the front entrance. Christians immediately ordered the intruders to leave the premises. Within seconds, one of the robbers lunged forward and began repeatedly stabbing Christians with a sharp object. Even after he collapsed to the floor from his injuries, the two attackers continued to violently strike him. His final words to his wife were a plea for help, stating that they were not going to make it. The perpetrators also stabbed one of the couple's dogs under the eye before fleeing the property.Christians was a deeply respected member of the West Coast community, known for regularly donating fresh vegetables to local soup kitchens and actively serving on the local Community Policing Forum (CPF). The Western Cape South African Police Service opened a murder and house robbery dossier.
